HABITAT
- The Central Rock Rat has a distinctive habitat.

- It is nocturnal.

- protected when they are in their homes between the rocks.

- predators usually large in size.

HABITAT
- Stays cool between the rocks.

-Temperatures can reach up to 40 degrees Celsius where the mammal lives.

- Little amounts of rain

DISTRIBUTION
The Central Rock Rat lives throughout the centre of Australia, thats were the mammal gets its name.
NICHE
- Eats native grasses.

-Decreases the spread of fire.

-Plants take up 96% of the mammals diet.

-Ecostytem highly relies on them to eat the grass.

-The Central Rock Rat ( as shown below) belongs to a simple food chain.
  -Begins with the producer (grass).
 -Then comes the rat (the primary consumer). 
-Then gets eaten by the secondary consumer (a snake).
 -Then consumed by the tertiary consumer (a hawk).

- Lack of small animals like the rat in the area.

- Already little numbers of prey for predators such as snakes.

- Eventually the predators of the snakes will die swell.

- They are becoming extinct because of their own surroundings.

- Bushfires are destroying their habitat and food.

- New buffalo grass kills the native grasses which the mammal eats.

- Was declare extinct for 25 years.

- Rediscovered in 1996 in the MacDonald ranges.
 
- Has a national recovery plan to help increase their population.

WHAT IS BEING DONE
Recovery actions which are taking place are things such as relocating the animal and sending them to breeding farms to increase their population size.
