OUR PROJECT'S GOALS
Increase the amount of water people drink per day

OUR PROJECT AS A SOLUTION
Our goal is to creat a supplement based on flavonoids that will be extracted from hottentot-figs
Combine with a powdered fruit flavor, such as strawberry, and make a flavoured supplement to dissolve in water 
The flavonoids that we will extract have antioxidant properties that help prevent cardiovascular diseases. And so, we solve three problems with only one solution.
But what sets us apart from other powder supplements?
HOW WOULD WE DO IT
We start by drying the plants in the 
laboratory oven at 45ºC, then grinding them.

The next step is to extract the phenolic compounds from the hottentot fig. 
To do this we start by doing three different types of extractions:
decoctionshydro-ethanolic 50/50ethanolic 99%
In order to understand which is the most efficient through spectrophotometer data.

After completing this study, we will do extractions with more samples of the already dried and crushed plant. After the extraction, we will go through the spray dryer, to then stabilize our extract with maltodextrin.
Sustainable Development goals
As our focus is the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, we contribute to the health and well-being of those who take our supplement
By removing an invase species from the habitat, we are protecting the life of native plants, and therefore we are protecting life on land 
ENVIRONMENTAL CONTRIBUTIONS
As well as making an excellent contribution to  human health, our project also contributes to a healthy and pleasant environment. 
 The plant used, the hottentot fig, is an invasive plant in Portugal. 
Therefore, by harvesting this plant for use, we are helping the place where they are found, as they are not welcome.
