The issue of shark finning
Shark finning is when people cut off the fins of a shark for shark fin soup
the fins are cut off the shark, and the rest of the body is thrown into the ocean
in Asia ,shark fin soup has very high demand and is a cultural dish in china
in one year, about 100 million sharks are killed 
The science
Part 2
Shark finning is a big threat to sharks and lowered the population of some sharks drastically. If sharks go extinct, it can make a huge impact on the ecosystem

Sharks are a keystone species. this means that they are very important for the ecosystem. And if they are removed, it will change the environment.
A trophic cascade is when some species increase and some decrease in an ecosystem because a top species is gone.
Part 3
Global cooperation
Canada has become the first G20 country to ban shark finning. This is because many people think shark finning is very destructive.
Since this ban is new, we will have to wait to see effects
Yao Ming
A retired NBA player, Yao Ming, partnered with WildAid to decrease the demand for shark fin soup. He does this by simply telling people how shark fin soup is actually made. Together, Yao Ming and WildAid have raised awareness about the shrinking of shark populations
