Hello!
My name is Mrs Shanley, 
and I'm doing a review of

The gift by michael speechley
The gift is...
A picture book that explores grief, loneliness, and friendship, from the perspective of a little girl who lives in a big city.
Note: the picture shows a dark, gloomy, and damp city
A halo effect surrounds the house on the hill of weeds and long grass
Rosie, the little girl, gazes directly at the house. Her bright coloured clothes and blonde hair are a welcome contrast to the dark of the city.
Rosie lives across the road from an old, rundown house. She wants to show her neighbour that she cares, and leaves gifts of weeds at the door. Rosie and Mrs Green meet and become quickly familiar, sharing their grief and healing together.
plot summary of The Gift:

The word "prickly" even looks prickly!
Images and visual literacy hints at Mrs Green joining Rosie's family in some manner, represented by Mrs Green and Rosie's dad waving and smiling at each other, followed by the bird family happily in it's nesting box.
