Middle school calendar
School Starts Monday, August 14th 
School ends Friday, June 7th 
Middle school uses quarters/semesters just like elementary school
2 Quarters = 1 Semester
2 Semesters = 1 School Year
You will receive 4 report cards.

Responsibility
You are responsible for getting make-up work and turning it in when you are absent. 
Advocate and Communicate with your teachers! They really will help! 
Check your assignments and grades in Infinite Campus regularly. 
Retakes are the best way to change a grade you don't like. 
Use technology thoughtfully. 
First bell rings at 7:23 a.m.
Sky Ranch Bell Schedule
Classes start at 7:30 a.m.
You'll have 6 classes each day, plus Enrichment.
Classes are 50 minutes long most days. 
Lunch is 30 minutes followed by Enrichment for 30 minutes. 
School ends at 2:00 (1:15 on early release Wednesdays. 
You have 5(ish) minutes for changing classes. 
Enrichment is 30 minutes every day opposite lunch
Enrichment
You'll fill out your planner and check Infinite Campus for a grade.
A good time to get help from teachers, makeup work and retake tests. 
6th grade Teams (a.k.a. Bases)
We have 8 sixth-grade bases you might become a part of: Angel, Eagle, Griswold, Pyramid, Tahoe, Topaz, Washoe, and our new team.
You'll have the same core teachers as the other kids on your base (not necessarily at the same time). 
Each base is assigned one counselor. 
Each counselor is assigned 3-4 bases (6th grade teams) and/or squadrons (7th or 8th grade teams). 
Core classes

English
Math
Social Studies
Science
Global Citizen
Music
Plan for about 60 minutes of homework 
20-30 minutes of Math practice nightly
30 minutes of independent reading nightly
unfinished classwork also becomes homework
If you choose band or orchestra, plan to spend 20-30 minutes practicing
Electives
You will get to choose TWO semester-long electives.
Electives may include: 
PE 
Art
Stem
Coding
21st Century Media
Course selection forms will be available on our school website and at open house May 9th and 11th. 
Grades
You must pass your classes to earn credits in order to move on to high school.

You will earn A through F grades in Middle School.

85% of your grade is based on assessments and projects.

15% of your grade is based on classwork and homework.

PE uniforms (athletic shorts & shirt) can be purchased at Thunderbolt Days in August.
Physical Education (PE)
Yes, you should have extra deodorant.
No, you won't have to shower. 
You'll dress out for PE if it's an elective you have on your schedule. 
Extracurricular activities

Clubs: You can start a club for almost any interest! Past clubs we have had: Minecraft, Drama, Helping Hands, Dungeons & Dragons, Canstruction & more!
Sports: You can join middle school sports teams starting in 7th grade. Sports include: Basketball, Cross-Country Running, Track, Volleyball, Soccer and Wrestling. 
In 6th grade, you may be able to practice with the team for non-cut sports (cross-country, track, wrestling) but you won't be on the team.  
Lockers (maybe…)
*  You may be assigned a locker. They’re small so don’t expect to fit a big backpack in the locker.
You can do it
Remember:
Every assignment matters, keep up and work hard! 
Class work and homework prepare you for assessments
Keep trying and push through frustration and confusion
Manage your time wisely
