Why water transport is important in plants???

A continous supply of water is needed replace water loss from aerial parts of the plant by transpiration and to deliver solutes to growing and developing tissues. It is important in photosynthesis, nutrient absorption etc.

Therefore,
water transportation is essential in plants
ZERO WASTE
Plants have root system which consists of root hairs to have effective water absorbance.

The outer most layer of the root is epidermis. After that water have to move through root cortex, endodermis, pericycle and finally it enters in to the xylem.

From the xylem, water reach to the other parts of the plants.
This transportation of water happens in three different pathways.

pathway

Symplast
      pathway

Transmembrane
    pathway

LETS' FIND OUT!
Water moves from cell to cell through the cell walls. A major quantity of water in the root cortex moves by apoplast. This pathway can cross the cortex and epidermis. 
However, apoplastic water movement beyond the cortex is blocked by the 
Casparian strip of endodermal cells. 
Apoplast pathway
Simplast pathway
Water passes from cytoplasm to cytoplasm through plasmodesmata which connected the neighbouring cells( plasmodesmata are small channels in cell wall). However, symplast pathway is slower than apoplastic movements.

Transmembrane (transcellular) pathway
Water crosses plasma membranes, entering and existing each cell. Water moving through the transmembrane pathway thus moves through both the symplast (interconnected cytoplasms) and apoplast (cell walls and spaces in between cells). Water may also cross the tonoplast, entering the central vacuole as part of the transmembrane pathway.
