The Problem
Our planet is heating up. Heat from the Sun gets trapped inside Earth’s atmosphere because of too many greenhouse gases. This is causing climate change—melting ice, rising sea levels, and making weather more extreme. It's not just about the environment; it affects us directly too, like our health, food, and future.
Greenhouse gases are gases that trap heat in our atmosphere.
The main ones are:
Carbon dioxide (CO₂)
Methane (CH₄)
Nitrous oxide (N₂O)
Water vapor
Ozone (O₃)
What Are Greenhouse Gases?
Effect on Spheres
Greenhouse gases don’t just affect the atmosphere—they impact all of Earth’s spheres. The hydrosphere (oceans) warms up and expands, the cryosphere (ice) melts, the biosphere (living things) struggles to adapt, and the lithosphere (land) deals with erosion and drought. And of course, the climate changes. Everything is connected, so if one part gets messed up, it affects the rest.
Evidence of Change in Greenhouse Gases
CO2 levels have shot up in the last 100 years. Before the industrial revolution, CO₂ levels were around 280 ppm. Today, we’re over 420 ppm. That’s not a small difference. NASA and NOAA have graphs that clearly show how fast it’s rising—and that it lines up with human activity like burning fossil fuels.
Heat Retention & Circulation
The heat doesn’t just sit there—it moves around. Ocean currents carry warm water from the equator to the poles, and winds spread that heat through the atmosphere. This natural movement helps balance temperatures around the planet, but when too much heat builds up, it throws off the whole system. Think stronger hurricanes, heatwaves, and weird weather in places that don’t usually get it.
If We Don’t Change…
If we keep doing nothing, the effects will get worse. More wildfires, stronger storms, floods, droughts, food shortages, and even climate migration. Some coastal cities could end up underwater. It’s not a sci-fi movie—it’s real life, and it’s already happening in some places
What Can We Do?
Switch to clean energy like solar and wind
Drive less—bike, walk, or carpool when you can
Eat less red meat (methane from cows adds up)
Recycle, reduce waste, and use less plastic
Plant trees—they absorb CO₂
Talk about it—help spread awareness
We can’t fix the planet overnight—but we can start today.
