China-Melaka Relations
Diplomatic relations between Malaysian and Chinese governments began in the 13th century, when the Malacca government developed diplomatic links with the Chinese government.
Given that the state government at the time was threatened by the Majapahit and Siam empires, the early phases of the connection between Malacca and the Chinese government were primarily centred on a diplomatic partnership that placed an emphasis on protection and safety. This gave the Malacca Sultanate the opportunity to develop and achieve their golden era.

Why China is so important to Melaka?
To get protection from China.
Ming dynasty China warned Siam and the Majapahit against trying to conquer and attack the Malacca sultanate, placing the Malacca Sultanate under Chinese protection as a protectorate, and recognized the sovereignty of the ruler of Malacca.

The Chinese strengthened several warehouses in Malacca.
The Muslim Sultanate flourished due to the Chinese protection against the Thai and other powers who wanted to attack Malacca, while keeping strategic political ties with other Moslem countries at that time.
Siam was also a tributary to China and had to obey China's orders not to attack.
Close ties with China shielded Melaka from any attacks by Siam and Majapahit who became its enemies at the time.

In this era, China is playing a growing role in Malacca and the world economy. It is one of the world's fastest growing countries and is the tenth largest exporter. China is also a significant recipient of foreign aid and a major borrower on international capital markets.
During the Ming Dynasty, there was a the significant growth of trade relations between China and the Malay World. This is because the Malay Sultanate of Malacca had sought refuge from the Ming Dynasty which was well known for its strong empire.
