Iliona: the antagonist (round character )

roman diary is a story about a girl named Iliona, she was sold as a slave along side her brother Apollo , until a mistress in Rome bought her as  her children's tutor, and her brother began working as a farmer  in Rome 
what does it mean for a character to develop in a story? select any character and explain in detail how his/her development helps to advance the plot?

Iliona started off in an unpleasant way, she was frightened, scared, and extremely worried about her brother, Also she knew nothing about Rome. But she met a girl named Cytheris who informed her about plenty of stuff for example: about the family and the citizens in Rome, she also keeps her more comfortable and safe. The days were passing by as Iliona  started getting used to Rome and  tutoring the kids (Marcus and Lucullus) also taking care of Lydia. ( the mistress's kids) She realized her job wasn't so bad after all compared to other slaves, in fact her job is incredibly normal and a lot of teens tutor kids nowadays for money
Iliona began feeling grateful because a lot of rome's citizens were in a position way worse than Iliona's, their clothes were ripped and dirty they didn't have food, unlike Iliona, she didn't have the best things but she managed with bland food and plain old clothes (like she should in our opinion)
the days were walking by and iliona started dealing with her situation as a slave in a brave way, although she was upset about her brother and worried about him but at least she got to see him every once in a while 
 Personally we think all readers want Iliona to be happy and by happy we want her to have a loving relationship with her mistress along side her brother. So most readers received what they wanted.
after the death of Iliona's master, his will was to free Iliona and her brother from being slaves. They wanted to head to their relatives in Mytilini, but they were scared that history would repeat it's self.
in conclusion, we think most readers were realizing as they read more and more of the story that Iliona was getting happier and happier by time or may we say (more comfortable, but also brave) she started from being scared and frightened to brave and strong, not only because she got used to it, but also because her mistress wasn't too bad she never yelled or screamed at her, and she got to go to school and even had her own room. Iliona's love for Lydia started increasing more and more, she took care of her in the beginning but saw her as a stranger, then she became from a stranger to a friend, then Iliona saw and realized that Lydia was like a sister to her she also treated her like one. So in the end illiona wasn't sad in fact she was happy because she was side by side with her brother, the mistress started treating her nicely, and she wasn't a slave any more. so she lived happily and safely.
(so basically most readers got what they want and its for Iliona to be happy and safe with her brother and not treated like animals but like normal people) thanks for watching
