What's it used for

The multimeter is a tool used for the electrical measures.

It is used in order to find out electrical faults in electrical and electronic circuits.
What are its components

Every multimeter is composed by two leads and a knob.

The leads are wires plugged in the multimeter where the current flows from the circuit into the tool. It’s analysed and the values are measured.

We are using the knob in order to set the multimeter on the measure we want to make.

How are values shown?

While the digital multimeter shows values measured on a display, on the analogic one they are shown by a pointer moving along a scale.
How to connect the leads

In every multimeter leads must be plugged into two jacks.
The color association makes it easier to understand where to connect.

The black lead 
must be connected into the jack marked "com".

As for the analogue multimeter the red lead goes into the jack marked with the range value.

Digital multimeter works in the same way, except for the red lead,
that must be plugged into a particular red jack named in the same way the measure we want to take is called.

Depending on the value we want to measure, the multimeter will be connected in a particular way. That’s because of the components inside the multimeter.

A Voltage measure requires a High resistance value, while a Current measure needs a low resistance value.

To select function by the range control, you must rotate the knob to the unit measure that you want test with the leads.
