He starred in his first movie through his mom's contacts. In the silent era, he rose to fame.
He became famous because of his silent persona in movies!
He was born on April 16, 1889

Charlie Chaplin was born on April 16, 1889 on Thursday at 8:59AM in London, United Kingdom.  His paternal grandmother came from the Smith family who belonged to the Romani people. There is no official record of his birth though.
Fact 1:
His mom's name: Hannah Chaplin
His Dad's name: Charles Chaplin Sr.
Charlie Chaplin lived in an orphanage because the family's money was running out. His brother and him were sent to a boarding school for orphans in the mean time!

Charlie partly grew up in an orphanage
Charlie Chaplin said "I was stiff". He hated his performance and blamed the director for cutting out all of his best work out of jealousy.
Fact 3:
Charlie Chaplin hated his first film
Chaplin dressed up one day in baggy pants, a tight coat, big shoes, a small bowler hat and a bamboo cane. He added a small fake moustache and is said to have strutted around while his co-actors were playing pinochle.

Chaplin played the same character in most of his films
Chaplin married 17-year old actress Mildred Harris. After, he married 16 year old Lita Grey, another actress. After that, he married an 18 year old Oona O’Neill when he was 54!! Oona's father got mad and disowned her. However they stayed together and had 8 children until Chaplin's death at 88.

Charlie Chaplin married teenagers three times!
