Erie canal
Erie Canal is...
A waterway in New York that is a major trade route and travel route.
The Erie Canal helped the US grow in many ways.
The Erie Canal helped the US grow more politically by helping with the war and helping the Union win that war by decreasing the power of slavery in the south. This also helped with New York as a commercial center, a premiere seaport and this helped New York to become the Empire State. The US also got money from tolls along the Erie Canal.
How did the Erie Canal help the US grow politically?
How did the Erie Canal help the US grow Geographically?

The Erie Canal helped the US grow more geographically because more people decided to move out west and along the canal. The Canal also helped with farming because people had more crops because the canal made it easier for goods to get around.
How did the Erie Canal help the US grow Economically?
The Erie Canal helped the US grow more economically because it was an easier way for people to trade and travel. The Erie Canal gave people in the US jobs because people had to build the canal. Grain was more distributed over the US along with other goods.
How did the Erie Canal help the US grow Historically?
The Erie Canal made the Great Migration to Michigan a lot easier to get there and to the promised land of Canada. The Erie Canal made helped start other states to make their own canals to help with transportation. The Erie Canal costed $7,000,000 and took 17 years from planning in 1808 to to a finished product in 1825, but only 8 years to build.
