Siddhartha & Buddhism

Buddhism is based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama.
Buddhism does not have a supreme god but a founder who became to be known as the "Enlightened One"

The Life of Siddhartha 
Born in 563 B.C in what is now Nepal
A prince living in luxury 
At the age of 29, things changed
holy yet happy??
A sick man
A dead man
An old man
A holy, poor old man who was happy
Decisions...Decisions...
Siddhartha gave up his wealth, his wife and child to search for answers. 
Meditated beneath a tree and finally understood how to be free from suffering
6 years later....
The Four Noble Truths
1. Truth is..all life is suffering
2.Truth of the cause of suffering is desire.
3. End of desire means end of suffering.
4. The Eightfold Path can end suffering.

Middle Way- Promotes a life balanced between happiness and self denial

Dharma
Reincarnation
Nirvana

End of suffering caused by the cycle of rebirth
Any castes can reach Nirvana
Buddhists believe that nothing is fixed and everything and anything can be changed at any time. They also believe that the Noble Eightfold Path is not just a path to the end of suffering but it is also a path of wisdom and mortality. His teachings promote nonviolence.
After the Buddha died, his remains were buried under an eight mount like structure called stupas.
Siddhartha was a philosopher, a spiritual teacher and a founder. Although he did not leave any written records of his teachings, they were transmitted orally from one generation to the next. 
Buddhism has spread though-out Asia and other parts of the world.  It is the main religion of Bhutan and Sri Lanka.
