The Balangiga bells are three church bells that were taken by the United States Army from the Church of San Lorenzo de Martir in Balangiga, Eastern Samar, Philippines, as war trophies after reprisals following the Balangiga massacre in 1901 during the Philippine–American War. One church bell was in the possession of the 9th Infantry Regiment at Camp Red Cloud, their base in South Korea, while two others were on a former base of the 11th Infantry Regiment at Francis E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming. People representing the Catholic Church in the Philippines, the Philippine government, and the residents of Balangiga had sought to recover the bells since the late 1950s
KALEMBANG
The kalembang bell is associated with pushcart vendors who sell ice cream in the streets of the Philippines. The word appears in the Fiipino song Mamang Sorbetero (Mister Ice-Cream Man). Filipinos also sometimes use the Tagalog word kalembang to refer to the sound that the bell makes.
Zhong, Wade-Giles romanization chung, Chinese clapperless bronze bells produced mainly during the late Zhou (c. 600–255 BC) dynasty and used as a percussion instrument in ancient China. Although the term also denotes the religious bells used daily in Buddhist temples, this article treats only the ancient bells rarely used today. Made of clay in Neolithic times, the zhong was crafted in bronze during the Shang dynasty (c. 1600–1066 BC). In performance the early zhong was either held by hand or placed on a seat with its mouth upward and struck with a mallet. This kind of zhong is also called nao in order to differentiate it from the suspended type.
ZHONG BELL
The Yongle Bell, cast in 1403 at the end of the first year of the reign of the Emperor Yongle, the third emperor of the Ming dynasty. Weighing nearly fifty tons, its sound could be heard fifty kilometers away on a clear night.
