Lessons from Jesus
Week One: Setting an Example
Matthew 3: 13-15 KJV

"Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. But John forbad him, saying, 'I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?'
And Jesus answering said unto him, 'Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him.'"
Jesus used his life to set a precedent for us. In this first instance, Jesus leads the way in the steps to repentance.
The messenger John the Baptist testified of His coming. He recognizes Jesus as Immanuel, God with us, a being of holiness.
Yet, Jesus came to him to be baptized. Why? Shouldn't this be the other way around? John asks this saying,
 "I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?"
Jesus tells him to let it be because it is necessary to fulfill ALL righteousness. 
The message of John the Baptist spoke about repentance. He called for many to turn from their wicked ways and be baptized.
To be baptized is to publically state that "I have turned from my wicked ways, and I return to God." However, Jesus was the promised Messiah.
 Why would He need to be baptized?
His baptism stated that He gives all of himself to God the Father. In response to this act, God the Father declared,
"This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
Jesus publically dedicated His life, and the Father publically claimed Him. 
This is the proper process, and Jesus modeled it. He did not say that He was Immanuel and that such a trivial matter was unnecessary; instead, He humbled Himself even further and went through the process like everyone else.
This was a display of humility, integrity, and love.
Humility:  The very word of God made flesh allowed a man to baptize Him to publically dedicate Himself to the heavenly Father whose and whom He was
Integrity: He ensured that every display of righteousness was carried out for the sake of the people who were watching Him.
Love: He did not allow any step of righteousness to be missed. He would present Himself on the cross in complete innocence to save us.
Let's try to operate in humility, integrity, and love.
