a capacitor is a device capable of storing energy in the form of an electric charge.

Capacitance #1
During this trial, there was only one 470 μf capacitor on the circuit board. This video shows how long it took the LED to completely turn off.
Capacitance #2
This clip show the second arrangement of the board, now with a singular the 470μf and 100 μf capacitor. This trial had an average time of 0.40 seconds for the LED to turn off.
Capacitance #3
This circuit has but only one capacitor, which is that of 100μf and is set vertically with the positive side being nearest to the switch.
Capcaitance #4
This circuit had both cpacaitors 100μf  and 470μf applied in a parallel arangement with the positive sides being closest to the switch. This arrangement made the LED turn off at a much slower pace, with an average time of 2.19 seconds.
What if the circuit has zero capacitors?
This is what would happen:
Without the capacitor, the current flow would not be gradual, but fall to a complete stop. Rather than the LED turning off at an average speed, it would shut off instantly.
