ECO-LODGE IN CORAL SHORES
Building an “eco-lodge” in the dense rainforest that makes up the inner island.
He proposed that the eco-lodge could appeal to the new wave of “eco-tourists” by offering them an organic experience under the forest canopy.

At the last city council meeting, the mayor proposed an idea for increasing tourism and boosting the economy:
When a fellow council member asked the mayor how the eco-lodge would affect the rainforest environment, the mayor waved off the councilwoman’s concerns claiming, “It won’t hurt anything to kill a few trees and monkeys for the ‘greater good’ of our island economy.”

Eco-Lodge
The eco-lodge would offer organically produced linens, eco-friendly amenities, and geothermal cooling.
The mayor believes he can restore what once was, and in the process, boost tourism and the economy by building this eco-lodge.

MAYOR'S POV
He is hoping to promote the use of organic products and create a luxury eco-friendly experience.
He is willing to take a very big risk at a pretty high cost.
A fellow council member asked the mayor how the eco-lodge would affect the rainforest environment
Greater good can be defined as, beyond one’s own self or benefit. But I often think of the greater good as layers in a ripple effect. What may be for the greater good of one region may reap their benefits at the expense of outsiders.
Does this benefit the greater good?
Concerned Councilwoman’s POV
A major concern is the native forest. The mentality that “it won’t hurt anything to kill a few trees and monkeys” is a slippery slope. The deceptive concept is abused and it is a lot easier to tear down than it is to build back up. You would be tearing down thousands of years’ worth of foliage and wildlife.
It also sends mixed messages: “Come and enjoy our eco-friendly lodging with all organic and environmentally friendly amenities. Oh, but don’t mind the entire forest we had to cut down and the animals we had to de-home and kill off to make this wonderful space for your pleasure!”
Finally, what would it costs taxpayers to have this hotel and economic boost? Would it raise the cost of living here?

I VOTE NO
Although I do want this community to thrive again, we have a responsibility that goes beyond what we want.
This kind of build will require a lot of money and I am worried that that puts less importance on conserving the environment and ethical decision making.

That being said, it is really easy to make financial decisions when it is not your own money you are playing with...
