If it smells like peaches or almonds it possibly could be toxic

Indigenous Australians are protectors of their country and are careful when hunting and gathering food to make sure it is sustainable and does not cause harm to Australia's delicate ecological system

Gathered on Australian coast lines & sand dunes
Pink flower and leaves eaten
Tastes like Kiwi fruit or salty strawberries
Eaten raw or cooked
Picked in spring & summer by hand, selected when flower in bloom
1 of  20 species of the genus Carpobrotu

The fruit can be used as a laxative
Roasting the leaves can make it a salt substitute
Juices from leaves can  soothe stings or burnt skin
Leaf Juice, mixed with water can be used as a gargle for sore throats & mild bacterial infections of the mouth.

Bears bright red fruit some the size of a cricket ball

Red ripe flesh is dry but sweet
Eaten raw or dried for future use
Picked from the months of October to March
Higher in protein & carbohydrates than most other fruits
Customary to collect & give to elder people in tribe camp
Smell like dry lentils or beans 
Seeds of fruit used as body ornaments & jewellary
Trees have drooping, leathery, light grey-green foliage 
Fruit can be picked and dried for up to 8 years!
Wild Parsnip
Trachymene incisa
University of Wisconsin (2001).

Native to Eastern Australia
Gathered in Sheltered woodland, especially gullies

Vegetable plant that has long, thick, white-yellowish taproots that are edible

Related to parsley & carrot family
Root is edible raw or cooked, tastes like a parsnip
Blooms bloom from June to mid-July
The oil of parsnip roots contains Myristicine, a strong human hallucinogen
Can cause skin irritation, burns and blisters on the body if leaves are touched
Cattle will not eat wild parsnip!
Gathering is done with extreme care to avoid contact with sap of the plant
Grows to four feet tall
After cleaning thoroughly & cutting out pockets of dirt, peel skin, to make ready to eat

Think Indigenous perspectives!
Redesigning the lunch box as a team
follow these steps
Step 1: Form a team of 4
Step 2: Collaborate: discuss each food item how its sourced, produced, prepared and utilises food technologies
Step 3: Present these discussions in a poster using your ICT
Step 4: Rethink the lunch box; aligning it with Indigenous perspectives 
Analyse: 
How can the lunch be better designed for healthy eating that also uses technologies that grows foods that are better for environment and sustainability doing some of the things Indigenous Australians have practised for hundreds of years.

Step 5: Make a new Lunch box that shows these new presepctives to present to class.
