What are fallacies?
FALLACY
is the use of invalid or otherwise faulty reasoning
what are the types of fallacies?
Give me 5 fallacy define and give example
STRAWMAN FALLACY!
STRAW MAN
over-simplifies or misrepresents your argument

EXAMPLE:
Biology teacher begins teaching evolution by stating that all things evolve. Student says she just can't accept that humans came from bugs.

Bandwagon fallacy!
bandwagon
significant population of people believe a proposition is true, doesn't automatically make it true.

EXAMPLE:
Commercial argues that "everyone" likes a specific brand of dessert.

HASTY GENERALIZATION
someone draws expansive conclusions based on 
inadequate or insufficient evidence.

EXAMPLE:
My father smoked four packs of cigarettes a day since age fourteen and lived until age sixty-nine. Therefore, smoking really can’t be that bad for you.

The attempt to distract from the truth of the conclusion by the use of pity.

EXAMPLE:
I really deserve an “A” on this paper, professor. Not only did I study during my grandmother’s funeral, but I also passed up the heart transplant surgery, even though that was the first matching donor in 3 years.

you irrelevantly attack the person or some aspect of the person who is making the argument

EXAMPLE:
“How can you argue your case for vegetarianism when you are enjoying that steak?”

APPEAL TO AUTHORITY
It works by stating that whatever is claimed is true because a “so-called” authority said so rather than applying any logical reasoning or providing any evidence to support the claim

EXAMPLE:
Raising interest rates by 3% MUST be in the best interest of the economy because the PM said so yesterday on the 9 o/clock news

occurs when someone implicitly or explicitly threatens the reader/listener as a justification for accepting their conclusion.

EXAMPLE:
I was waiting in line at an ice cream shop, when out of nowhere someone cuts in line in front of me.

This works by using the premise that since we do not know something that it must be either true or false

EXAMPLE:
someone says that there's life in the universe because it hasn't been proven to not exist outside of our solar system or that UFOs have visited Earth.
