Demonstrative Pronouns
These are my dogs.
The next type of pronoun that we're going to look at is the
Demonstrative pronoun.
Demonstrative pronouns point out particular persons or things.
That
is a map of New York City.
Is        Central Park?
this
These are the demonstrative pronouns:
Use "this" and "these" for things that are close by.
Use "that" and "those" for things that are far away.
This and that are singular.
These and those are plural.
This

Those
That is my apartment.
This is my car.
Those are my trained carrier pigeons.
These are well-behaved.
You have to be careful with demonstrative pronouns!
Demonstrative pronouns can also be used as adjectives.
When you see a demonstrative pronoun right next to a noun, it is usually not a pronoun; it is an adjective.
The exception to this rule is a question.  Turn it into a statement to check it.
are busy streets. (demonstrative pronoun)

streets are busy. (demonstrative adjective)

Notice that there are other words separating "these" from "streets" when it is a demonstrative pronoun.  This is a sure sign that you're looking at a demonstrative pronoun.
Remember!
Use "this" and "these" for things that are are close by.
Use "that" and "those" for things that are farther away.
"this" and "that" are singular; "that" and "those" are plural.
If you are unsure if the word is a demonstrative pronoun, check to see if there are other words separating the pronoun from the noun. If so, it is definitely a demonstrative pronoun.
