PSCH 312 Social Psychology: Self-Perception Theory
Self-perception theory is the understanding behind why people behave and act the way they do based on social interactions, experiences, and attitudes. People observe their own behavior and feelings and then conclude and rationalize the reasoning behind their behavior. Often, internal cues are weak, individuals have to visualize themselves using external cues to infer what is going on; it allows for the unfolding of self-knowledge. There is an uncertainty behind the attitude and is open for interpretation because it is not well-defined. There is no deep analysis or strong opinion about the learned behavior. Individuals learn about themselves through observation.
