This is how we started.
We introduced vSphere, the world's first ever virtualization technology. With this, we shaped the world by helping business owners consolidate their hardware and cut cost.

Introduced vSAN, a core building block. This software driven storage solution helped IT teams to provision and manage storage easily.

Launched NSX, our software defined networking solution. This key solution helped transform the way we connect and protect our applications.

Introduced vRealize Operations to help to proactively monitor workload performance through analytic engines.

As our customers' businesses grow larger, how can we ensure that repeatable tasks can be automated so that they can focus on what's important? That's where vRealize Automation came in.

What about DR? We introduced Site Recovery Manager, a solution for customers to protect and test out their DR plans.

Customers are starting to see the value of going to public clouds for many reasons. People are not interested in reinventing the wheel by recreating technologies which are already available.
However...
These are the components that makes up a Software-defined Datacenter.

People want to be able to use all these different amazing technologies created by public cloud vendors and at the same time, have data soverignty and keep sensitive data on-premise.
It means...
We announced a partnership with Amazon Web Services to come up with VMware Cloud on AWS.
So in 2017...
We enabled IT teams to manage their cloud-based resources with familiar VMware tools. Customers can operate across multiple clouds without restriction.

Lots of other public cloud vendors wanted to be on board as well!
