What is Cyberbullying?

Cyberbullying is when a person 
uses the use of technology to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person.
Spreading rumors about someone.
Sharing embarrasing pictures or videos of someone 
Threatning someone online through posts or messages. 
Creating fake accounts to impersonate someone 
Peer pressuring to send pictures or messages.

It follows victims 24/7 and there’s really no safe escape while impacting mental health causing  severe depression, anxiety, PTSD, lowered self‑esteem, loneliness, suicidal thoughts, and even self-harm.

Around 26–28% of U.S. teens experience cyberbullying monthly; girls report higher rates (28.6%) than boys (24.2%)

Bullying
Impersonation: Pretending to be somonsomeone else to cause damage. 
Exposing: Sharing private information without permission
Harrassment: Repeated harmful messages or threats
Trolling: Posting offensive content to upset others. 
Signs someone is being cyberbullied
Withdrawls from devices and social media Drop in grades Sudden loss of friendsDeclining grades Avoiding school or extracurricular activities Unexplainable injuries Self destructive behaviors 
Where the bullying happens: 
Social media (Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter) Messaging apps (WhatsApp, iMessage, Messenger) Online gaming (chat rooms, multiplayer games, Roblox, ) School platforms (email, Google Classroom, canvas)
What can we do? 
Parents: 
keep open communication and assure they can come to you. Teach safe, respectful, and appropriate online behavior and the consequences of harmful behavior. Pay attention to any changes in behavior, mood, sleep, or school performance. Set guidelines for screen and social media use. Consider parental controls if needed. 
Teachers: 
Monitor online activity respectfully. Talk openly about internet safety. Model respectful behavior online and offline. Encourage students to speak up and support peers.
Victims: 
Document and report any abusive content or content that doesndoesn't feel right. BLOCK bullies and tell a trusted adult. Report to support services of appSeek mental health support and help.
