Happy New Year!

Looking back to last year I predicted continued Brexit uncertainty and increasing turbulence around the world.

None of us predicted the reality of 2020 though... the challenges faced led to many social enterprises having to close their doors, both temporarily and permanently.

Adapting to changing situations and challenges is where our sector thrives though.

I salute every business for facing the challenges head on, with vital support being provided to many communities.

I remain confident that we can unite, leading the way in creating a stronger and fairer world for all post-Covid.

Looking back over 2020, we wanted to pick out some highlights, which we think set positive markers for the future…

We celebrated our 10th anniversary with a reception at The Wesley Hotel in London - one of the original Social Enterprise Mark pioneers

We formed an alliance with other social sector bodies to lobby the UK government for targeted support for social businesses

We announced measures to support our network through the crisis, including a temporary relaxation of assessment requirements and the option to freeze licences

#SaveOurSocEnts campaign launched - receives the support of over 1,000 businesses and leads to a further £85m in financial support for social enterprises

We announced a new partnership with UAE-based social enterprise C3 to expand social enterprise accreditation to the Middle East

We endorsed a new Social Enterprise MSc at the University of Westminster, which is the first course of its kind to be approved by the social enterprise sector

Despite the current uncertainty, we have big plans for the year ahead. Here, we share a few of our key priorities...
