Identity and code switching
Code switching has a significant impact on identity, as it is closely linked to language, culture, and social belonging. Code switching allows individuals to adapt their language to match the linguistic norms and expectations of different social groups or contexts.
Strategies of code switching
Code switching involves various strategies for navigating between languages or dialects. Intersentential switching switches languages at the sentence or clause level, while intrasentential switching incorporates words or phrases from another language within a sentence. Tag-switching involves using a phrase or expression from one language within predominantly another language. Code mixing blends languages at the lexical or morphological level, and code borrowing incorporates individual words or phrases from one language. Code substitution replaces a word or phrase in one language with an equivalent in another language. 
Types of code switching
There are five main types of code switching: tag switching, intra-sentential switching, inter-sentential switching, code mixing, and code borrowing. .

Through code-switching, individuals can showcase their language proficiency and connection to multiple languages, contributing to the development of a multilingual identity.
