What is Type 1 Diabetes?
Type 1 diabetes is a condition where your pancreas doesn't produce enough insulin, which is a hormone that allows your body to use up glucose for energy.

Without insulin, the following can occur:
Long-term complications: lack of energy causes damage to important organs + tissues
Hyperglycemia: glucose cannot be supplied to cells for energy, and remains in the bloodstream

Type 1 Diabetes is a highly manageable condition, and you ARE NOT ALONE! Many people, including children and teenagers have Type 1 Diabetes. They are able to manage their condition with the following treatments:
Treatment
Insulin injections are used to help your body get energy from glucose, and also manage blood sugar levels. 
It's important to check your blood sugar regularly to make sure it stays in a healthy range.
Advancements in Treatments
New treatments are currently being developed, and are now moving beyond insulin injections. Possible future treatments might include:
Future Treatments
Artificial Pancreas System: A smart device that helps manage insulin automatically.

Islet Cell Transplantation: Putting new insulin-making cells into the body.

Stem Cell Therapy: Using special cells to repair the pancreas.

Immunotherapy: Adjusting the immune system to stop attacking insulin-making cells.
