These are then discussed in committee meetings and amended

If they get past all of that, then they are voted on in the House it was introduced in

Ideas come from ordinary citizens, congressional staffers, interest groups, lawyers, and more

The whole process starts all over again in the other House
 
If passed there, the two amended versions of the bill from both houses come to a compromise in a conference committee.

Goes to President
The finally amended, accepted bill is given to the President, who can either sign or veto the bill
 
Signing the bill makes it a law, but vetoing sends it back to Congress

vetoed, or becomes a law
If the bill is vetoed then the bill probably dies

*Exception* Congress can override a veto!
