SEXUAL HARASSMENT BETWEEN TEACHERS AND STUDENTS
Definition of Sexual Harassment
• Unwelcomed behavior of a sexual  
  nature that affects the dignity of  
  those subjected to it.
• Can be physical, verbal, or non- 
  verbal.
• Denies or limits a student's ability  
  to participate in or benefit from a 
  school's education program.
Examples of Sexual Harassment
Physical
Verbal

Unwanted touching, hugging, or kissing.
Inappropriate comments, sexual jokes, or propositions.
Inappropriate gestures, displaying sexual images, or leering
Types of Sexual Harassment
Quid Pro Quo: 
Hostile Enviornment:
Cyber Sexual Harassment:
A benefit in exchange for sexual favors or advances.
Someone's unwanted and inappropriate behavior makes a place feel uncomfortable or threatening.
When someone sends unwanted or inappropriate sexual messages, pictures, or comments through the internet or digital devices.
"Give me something sexual, and I will give you something you want."
Investigation
Student-to-Student/Adult: 
Allegations of student-to-student/adult harassment will often be investigated by a campus administrator. 
The principal may ask for assistance from Student Services or Human Resources.
Allegations may require submitting a reporting to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.
Prevention Strategies
• Set and maintain clear and appropriate boundaries.
• Avoid touching students when there is no educational reason.
• Avoid "pet" names like princess, sweetie, cutie, beauty.
• Avoid commenting on physical appearance (manner of dress 
  and specific student physical attributes). 
• Avoid sending personal letters, cards, or gifts to students.
• Don't engage in communication with students through text-
  messaging, Facebook, X, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. 
                  If you SEE something, SAY something! 
Some Consequences
• Felony criminal conviction, prison, and fine
• Public sex offender registration.
• Loss of SBEC credentialing
• All the money in your teacher's retirement/pension will be 
  VOID and stripped from you and your family 
• Inability to ever work for a school/city/state again.
• Anyone who tries to hire you at a school will face fines/jail. 
• Anyone who fails to mention your background in a 
  reference check will face fines/jail.
