And today we will be analysing chapter 16-20 of  ..
IKWTCBS by Maya Angelou !

Where has the story moved to in these chapter ?
In chapters 16, 17, 18,19 and 20 ,Marguerite and her brother,Bailey ,are in stamps Arkansas with Momma (their grandmother ) who is referred to as Annie Henderson

What is the situation in these chapters?
In chapter 16 ,Momma sends Marguerite to a white Woman's house because she believes marguerite should learn refined manners
In chapter 17 we see that Bailey has gone out and has not returned back home and this causes Momma and Marguerite to fear since in the south it could mean he has possibly been lynched

In chapter 18 there is an occurrence of a revivalist meeting where the pastor touches on the topic of an afterlife with the blacks living a good life and the whites suffering

In chapter 19 every black person gathers at the store to watch the fight of Joe Louise who is a black boxer fighting for the heavyweight champion title.

In chapter 20 there is a summer picnic taking place which is usually one of the most well-attended community events of the year. 
What is the situation in these chapters?
Throughout chapter 16 we see that Marguerite is not happy to be renamed by a white woman which upsets her  causing her to drop the casserole on the floor infront of lady.

Bailey is very unapologetic and sullen and does not inform Momma or Uncle Willie about the reason he felt that way.This depicts a picture of a family that do not express their emotions to one another.

The preaching which is on "The least of these".The pastor emphasis that their lives may be filled with hardships but they will reap vast rewards in heaven.
religion serves as an escape and release for the needy because 
the comfort people find in religion distracts them from pursuing the role of social equality.

What is the situation in these chapters?
Joe Louis represents a hope of challenging and triumphing of white prejudice and oppression. The white boxers name is not even mentioned because he is used as a symbol of racial dominance.

In chapter 20 the description of the food and activites makes the setting come alive .It also shows how much Maya appreciates and enjoyes the community setting.

How does the new location (locale) affect the development of the narrator’s character and her relationship with other characters?
The new location which is the  white servant’s house shows another side of Marguerite where she learns to stand for her rights by taking action.Growing a sense of selfworth.This action is seen through the form of her dropping the casserole on the floor which affects her relationship with the white woman since she was kicked out of the house.

Staying at stamps affected Bailey since he was finding it hard to believe that he has lost his mother and this causes a feeling of displacement.Before bed he does not say the lords prayer but the baby prayer

Relationship between bailey and Marguerite begins to weaken since it took him some time to open up to marguerite about it 
 chapter 18 when they go for a revivalist meeting at church. The preacher touches on the topic of how the “blacks” would make it to heaven and the “whites” to hell. This makes Marguerite realise that the blacks used religion as a form of hope and causes her to think of when they would gain social justice.

Every time Marguerite is at the store, she has a feeling of comfort and happiness which puts her in a better mood .Not only with the people at the store but with bailey and Momma too.

Marguerite is able to open up to someone as a person and to still accept that she is still a child and growing. There is also more than a friendship between Tommy and marguerite. Her crush on him shows her ability to still feel affection despite the emotional and physical pain that she has endured.

What aspects of historical, cultural and social contexts are revealed here and how do these impact the narrator’s life?

In chapter 16-20 we see that racial inequliaty has been going on for a long time.This causes a lot of black children to constantly have a feeling of displacement. Religion is also seen to play a huge role in the life of a black American.This gives a sense of hope to the black people. Changes in Hierarchical system is also seen when a black empowers a white man and due to this success, blacks pay a consequence which could leave them in danger.There is also mention on the importance of friendships and relationships 
These aspects cause Marguerite to feel displaced where she finds her self since there is no sense of home and this affects her actions in the future.However,Marguerite grows her faith as a black girl.There is some fear in Marguerite when all black people have to find a place to stay nearby in order to avoid an attack from the whites but marguerite is also able to learn how to talk to others and the importance of friendships.
