Challenge

The Global Business Change team at Sage frequently rolls out new tools and processes throughout the company. During these rollouts, creating trust through communicating the reasons for the change is crucial to avoid mistrust which can lower employee morale and lead to unnecessary stress. The team believed that making the content relatable was key to getting through to the audience. Using animations for story-telling was one of the best ways to create such content. But at that time, the team didn’t have access to a tool that empowered them to use animations and other story-telling techniques.

Solution

Awareness and Trust

“Powtoon helps deliver global change by creating awareness and building trust among our colleagues,” said Martin Bowman, Senior Business Change Trainer. The team creates videos to “sell” the benefits of the proposed changes, celebrate when they launch new initiatives like the flexible work policy, promote internal recruitment for the Change Ambassador program, and introduce new employees to the team.

Relatable Branded Videos

Branded videos with Sage colors, fonts, and logos have been included in business-wide communications, presentations, and live events. “Story-telling is huge for us. Powtoon enables us to create just about any scene imaginable using shapes and props. One of our biggest successes is making change relatable through  real-world scenes that people are familiar with in day-to-day life.”

The Joy of Creating Quickly

The team creates around two Powtoon videos every month. “Feedback from our colleagues shows that they love watching our videos as much as we love creating them. Due to this increased engagement, we have started using Powtoon more than we ever thought we would. Basically, if we can find an excuse to create a video and make communication more engaging, we will certainly do it.”

Results

Sage has so far trained colleagues in 20 countries with Powtoon videos on new processes and tools. The Global Business Change team has also trained members of the Change Community of Practice on the power of visual communication, highlighting the benefits of using Powtoon. Due to the positive feedback from colleagues, the team has experienced a significant uptick in requests for support, projects, and initiatives from the business. “Everyone seems to want us to create a video for change management now. We even decided to hire two new apprentices to work specifically on colleague engagement content due to this high demand, said Martin Bowman, Senior Business Change Trainer. “As a company that truly cares about our customers, we are careful of how we choose our partner organizations as well. We chose Powtoon because we loved their backstory, mission, and passion for taking visual communication to the next level.”
