My Dental Internship

I interned with Dr. Maansi Pai at Pai Dental, a family dental practice in Johns Creek.
11585 Jones Bridge Rd #710, Johns Creek, GA 30022
I've been working with Dr. Pai for multiple months. Here is what a week at the practice looks like.
After my internship with Dr. Pai, I would like to pursue a career in dentistry.
More specifically, I would like to pursue endodontics because root canals and treatments fascinate me.
Why Dentistry?
The personal connection between doctor and patient is extremely valuable.
Moreover, intricacies in dental procedures are akin to engineering; an investment in a patient’s smile. You get to see a patient’s smile transform over time.

To elaborate, I have seen many patients multiple times throughout my time at the practice and have seen the care put into dentistry firsthand.

I have also been able to continue to interact with these patients and develop my communication skills, an improvement from last semester.
Duties
Sanitization
- Responsible for sanitizing the room (known as breaking down a room) after a patient leaves. 
- Wipe down surfaces and instruments

Shadowing and Aiding
As a general dentist, Dr. Pai diagnoses dental issues and performs a wide variety of procedures. I watch these procedures such as cleanings, fillings, implant crown placements, crown procedures, scalings, and bridge placements. 
I have also expanded my role this semester to aiding new interns and introducing them to the dental office, which has helped me connect and network with students in college and other high schools. I have also been able to get out of my comfort zone with this role, an improvement from last semester.
Teamwork and Collaboration
At the practice, we all support each other and work together to create the best dental experience for the patients. I love helping Dr. Pai with tasks and also aiding the dental assistants and front office with anything they need!
In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed my time interning with Dr. Pai, and I cannot wait to further my studies by majoring in neuroscience and later on attending dental school! My time at the practice confirmed my dental aspirations.
